St Simeon Stylites - what did they do with the S.H.I.T.?

Simeon Stylites adopted a penance on top of a pillar in Syria in the 5th century, and stayed there for 40 years or so. So, what happened to.... the products?? I read somewhere (AN Wilson?) that there is an answer to this, but what is it?
