How to prepare for a Dog Adoption Home Visit?

We have a home visit to adopt our first dog tomorrow, she is an adorable Pom/Chi mix. Is there anything we should expect? We do not have a fenced in yard, but I have already told them this! We do have a huge empty field next to our apartment that is owned by our landlord where we can take the dog out, always on a leash of course! My only concern is that our neighbors downstairs do not keep their part of the yard that the kids play in very neat. Toys everywhere, and some wood and cinder blocks lining the woods in the back from the father's many projects. Any suggestions?
